There is a bill in the California Senate to create a yearly fire protection fee for rural property owners. It is Senate bill 1617. Check out page one of the Times Standard for May 20, 2008 for details. Here is a link to the online article.

I will be archiving this as these dated links expire. The Del Norte County Supervisors are opposed. They say it subsidizes highly urbanized areas. Calfire is analyzing the bill. They have historically been opposed to such fees.
